Kitano Ijinkan-gai (Approx. 1 hour, free time available)
During the Meiji and Taisho periods, Kobe built a large number of Western-style buildings, which are best preserved today in the Kitano area of Chuo Ward. The district stretching from Yamamoto-dori 1-chome to 3-chome is known as "Kitano Ijinkan-gai," formerly consisting of private residences of foreign merchants and foreign consulates. Walking uphill along Kitano-dori or Ijinkan-dori, you will encounter numerous Western-style houses. Some have been converted into museums or art galleries, while others remain open to the public in their original layout. Boutiques, cafes, small restaurants, and flower shops are scattered among the buildings, creating an elegant exotic atmosphere reminiscent of a small European town—perfect for a leisurely stroll.
Starbucks Kitano Ijinkan Concept Store — Japan's First Starbucks
Built in 1907, this building has a history of over 100 years. It was originally the residence of an American, later purchased by a German baker who converted it into a coffee room on the first floor and a Western-style exhibition hall on the second. After collapsing in the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, it was rebuilt on the original site and registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. In 2009, Starbucks transformed this legendary building into the historic Kobe Kitano Ijinkan Store.

Stunning views and a relaxing onsen—just wow.
One word? Magical. Kobe’s night views are unreal—and the onsen at the end was icing on the cake.
Loved every moment—Kobe Port was lovely at sunset, the Ferris Wheel lit up beautifully, and the night skyline from the mountain was unforgettable. Arima Onsen was a relaxing bonus. Highly recommend!
Kobe at night + hot spring = ♥
Great mix of history, city lights, and relaxation. We wandered through old foreign-style homes in Kitano, felt the breeze at Kobe Port, and capped the night with a comforting soak in Arima Onsen. The night view from Rokko was nothing short of spectacular.
From the historic charm of Kitano Ijinkan Street to the glittering cityscape atop Mount Rokko, this tour delivered on every front. The onsen experience in Arima was a wonderful way to unwind, and not having to worry about transport from Osaka made it all the more enjoyable.
Fantastic evening itinerary! Kitano Street had such character, the Ferris Wheel’s lights were charming, and that night view from Mount Rokko will stay with me forever. The hotel pick-up made it stress-free too.
Perfect tour from Osaka. All the best Kobe highlights—charm, lights, and hot springs—in one go.
Loved the history in Kitano, loved the views at Rokko, loved the onsen too. Great value!
Highly recommend for great sights and a calming finish.
